Rehabilitation of Stanley Street Begins
…Municipality awards tender to Inyatsi Construction
One of the strategic objectives in the City of Manzini’s 2019-2024 Integrated Development Plan (IDP) is to improve infrastructure development and maintenance whilst ensuring efficient traffic management. Whilst a lot of work still lies ahead on this front, some great progress has been, and continues to be, achieved by the Municipality. One of the freshest highlights is the ongoing construction of the Bosco bridge and rehabilitation of three roads (Tikhuba, Mimosa and Southern Distributor) in the south-eastern part of the city. The Municipal Council of Manzini is happy to inform citizens of the city, stakeholders and the general members of the public that the awaited rehabilitation of Stanley street in Ngwane Park is now commencing. The site has already been handed over to the contractor, Inyatsi Construction, and road pegging is already visible on site. The project entails reconstruction of a close to 2km road stretch from the D98 road at Old Zakhele past Ludwala and further down to the Stanley bridge just before Ngwane Park High School. For quite some time now, the road has been exhibiting visible signs of dilapidation due to its age and citizens were unanimous in their call for inclusion of the road in the 2019-2024 IDP during a community consultation process back in 2018.
The project will run for a period of six months and road users, both motorists and pedestrians, are requested to cooperate with the contractor. The necessary traffic signage will soon be erected on the road. Furthermore, since the project site will be characterized by heavy plant and machinery for the duration of the project, parents are urged to sensitize their children against playing on the road in order to avoid occurrence of accidents. Schools are also urged to do same with pupils. The Municipality will soon convene a meeting with residents of Ngwane Park Extension, particularly those who live along the project site for purposes of giving out more detail about the project as well as share dos and don’ts during the rehabilitation period. Most importantly, members of the public are urged not to tamper with the pegs that have already been installed as they play a huge role towards the success of the project. As part of the Municipality’s Local Economic Development (LED) strategy, an effort will be made to request the contractor to prioritise community members in the event there are job opportunities available.
…PROGRESS ON BOSCO BRIDGE AND 3 OTHER ROADS
A few months ago, the Municipal Council of Manzini embarked on a massive project towards construction of a bridge that will connect Ngwane Park with the Southern Distributor road near Bosco Skills Centre, thereby relieving traffic congestion on D98 road through the provision of an additional entry/exit point into the city centre. The project also entails rehabilitation of Tikhuba road (from the main traffic circle near Manzini Club into Coates Valley), Mimosa street (from Tikhuba road to Magnolia road near the International Tabernacle Church in Coates Valley) and Southern Distributor road (from Bosco Skills Centre to Magnolia road). The ongoing E45 million project, which is being delivered by the Municipality through AG Thomas (PTY) Ltd is progressing as scheduled. Concrete foundations for the bridge have been cast, construction of the bridge’s support columns is underway. Moreover, Construction of base layers as part of rehabilitation of Tikhuba and Mimosa roads is underway. On the overall, the project is progressing well. The Municipality implores motorists, pedestrians and residents who live along the project area to continue cooperating with the contractor.

- OUTDOOR AMPHITHEATRE
The City of Manzini has an outdoor amphitheatre that is at the disposal of the entertainment industry and the general members of the public. The facility is located within Pendray Park in Trelawney Park Township and, at the moment, it is accessible free of charge. Now that the Covid-19 regulations as to gatherings and entertainment have been eased, the youth and other interested stakeholders are encouraged to make use of the amphitheatre to promote and sharpen their artistic talents.
