A Council made up of 12 Councillors governs the City of Manzini. All Councillors are democratically elected by residents from all 12 municipal wards; with each ward electing its Councillor. The term of office for all Councillors is 5 years after which the city goes back to the polls to elect the next Council. Citizens have no power to recall a non-performing Councillor. Instead, they are required to wait until the full term of office before they can elect another candidate. Councillors are expected to hold community meetings in their respective constituencies at least quarterly. Council convenes statutory meetings on the last Thursday of every month, commencing at 2:30pm, and citizens (regardless of age, status or gender) are welcome to come through and observe the proceedings.
