Positive Impact of Municipality, EWSC Partnership Begins to Show
The recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Municipal Council of Manzini and the Eswatini Water Services Corporation (EWSC) is already yielding visible results. The MoU was signed in September 2024. In the past, the Corporation’s repair of water supply infrastructure often led to roads being dug up, with the road surfaces left unrepaired. However, recent developments signal a positive change in the City of Manzini. A recent example of this partnership in action occurred at the Ngwane/Martin streets intersection, near the Manzini Shopping Mall and Eswatini National Provident Fund, where a burst pipe required traffic to be diverted. Within a few days, an EWSC-contracted contractor was on-site, working to restore the road to its original state. Similar efforts were seen at Tikhuba/Kelly streets near Manzini Club and the Mancishane/Louw streets intersection near the Manzini Police Station. Similar work has been witnessed on Mazibuko Street in Zakhele. EWSC has also communicated plans to attend to a section of Fairview Road, which had been left in disrepair after an earlier infrastructure repair.
These are tangible signs of the success of the MoU. In addition to visible improvements in road repairs, the communication between the Municipality and EWSC has also significantly improved. Both organisations now use a live communication platform, which provides real-time updates and better coordination. This enhanced communication has resulted in faster responses to service delivery concerns, including issues relating to water leaks and open manholes. The constant flow of information allows the Municipality to inform the public about road closures and suggest alternative routes whenever EWSC addresses water supply interruptions. The Municipality is also working towards similar collaborative agreements with other utility companies to further enhance service delivery in the city.
…PROPERTY OWNERS REMINDED TO SETTLE OUTSTANDING RATES BEFORE END OF MARCH
As the financial year draws to a close, the Municipal Council of Manzini would like to remind all property owners to settle their outstanding rates. The current financial year ends at the end of next month, after which new rates bills will be issued. The Municipality expresses gratitude to property owners who have already met their legal obligation to pay rates as required by the Rating Act, 1995. Their continued commitment plays a vital role in supporting the Municipality’s ongoing service delivery efforts. The Municipality urges those who have yet to clear their outstanding balances to do so before end of the financial year. By settling your rates, you do not only protect your property from legal action but also contribute to the Municipality’s ability to carryout her responsibilities as outlined in the Urban Government Act of 1969. When property owners fulfill their rates obligations, the Municipality is better equipped to deliver essential services to the city. Furthermore, property owners are encouraged to update their contact information with the Municipality. If there is any Manzini city property owner who never receives correspondence from the Municipality, it is a clear sign that their contact details urgently need to be updated. The Municipality offers multiple payment methods to accommodate the diverse preferences of ratepayers. Available rates payment methods are;
- USSD Code *440# (allows one not only to pay but also view their rates balances)
- Electronic Funds Transfer (Municipality has accounts with all the banks in Eswatini)
- Debit Order arrangement.
- Eswatini MTN Mobile Money
- Eswatini Mobile E-Mali
- Debit/credit card swiping or cash at the Rates Hall
