New Mayor Springs to Action
…launches programme that seeks to keep the city’s elderly busy throughout the year
Hardly a week into office, new Manzini Mayor Nozipho Dlamini-Gamedze has launched a programme that seeks to keep the city’s elderly citizens busy throughout the year. The knitting and crocheting programme was officially launched last week Thursday during the Manzini Elderly Health and Wellness Day which was attended by over 160 city elderly citizens at the Millennium Park. The elderlies were also presented with groceries and blankets during their special day. “I would like to announce that as a Municipality we have thought long and hard; trying to find out what we can do to keep elderly citizens of our city busy throughout the year. We have, therefore, come up with a crocheting and knitting programme that will run the whole year. All items that will be produced as part of this programme, such as jerseys, scarfs, beanies and hand gloves, will be distributed to the less privileged during the next winter season”, said the Mayor. She added: “I would like to encourage elderly citizens of our city in all the municipal wards to join this programme. Elderly citizens who do not know how to crochet or knit but are interested in joining the programme are also welcome. They will be capacitated”.
The Mayor also appealed to companies and organisations to support the programme through sponsorships and other forms of support. Those interested to join the programme can contact the Municipality’s Community Programmes Coordinator on 2508 5091 or the Municipality’s WhatsApp numbers 7808 2333/7908 2333 or email to thabilen@mzcitycouncil.sz or info@mzcitycouncil.sz. The Municipality further expresses her appreciation to the following companies and organisations for partnering with it towards the success of the elderly’s event;
