Municipality Wishes Citizens Merry Christmas, Safe Festive
The Municipal Council of Manzini takes this opportunity to wish Manzini citizens and all other stakeholders a merry Christmas and a safe festive season. The Municipality values the support that it continues to receive from its stakeholders, including the national Government, and trusts that the good rapport will carry on even in the new year. The Municipality thrives on good working relationships with its stakeholders for purposes of accelerating city development. The Municipality further implores residents to ensure safety of their properties during the festive season. According to the police, records show that house-breaking incidents nowadays occur even during daytime. Therefore, it is not advisable to leave one’s property unguarded – both during the day and at night time. Those who will be departing to spend the festive season in various destinations are reminded to ensure that they take all necessary safety precautions in order to protect their residences from crime. The Municipality implores citizens to take note of the following during the festive season and beyond;
- Be wary of expiry dates whilst doing your shopping
This is a season that is often characterised by price discounts in supermarkets and other shops. The Municipality would like to warn all citizens to be mindful of the expiry dates and best-before dates on the products. This is because purchasing of foodstuff that has expired can cause more harm than good on the health and wellness of an individual. Citizens are further implored to immediately alert the Municipality (2505 7000/800 2004) in the event they come across expired food items in any of the shops in the city. Health inspectors will be available to assist citizens on such matters.
- Covid-19 is still a threat. Please take precaution
The Municipality would like to remind citizens that the Covid-19 virus is still a threat. Citizens are urged to take precaution at all times. Wearing of face masks is encouraged to those with flu-like symptoms so to avoid the spread of the virus. Frequent washing of hands with soap and running water is also encouraged.
- Waste Collection
The Municipality will continue collecting domestic waste even during the festive season; as per the existing collection schedule. Residents of the city are, therefore, urged to continue adhering to the waste collection schedule and only take out garbage on the scheduled collection dates. Taking out garbage outside of the scheduled collection date often causes problems as stray dogs end up scattering the garbage; leaving the place unsightly. During collection dates, residents are further urged to ensure that the waste is neatly stuffed in a refuse bag and tied. Alternatively; utilise a refuse bin. Food waste must be put in a refuse bag, tightly sealed and placed separately from the rest of the garbage. The Municipality, together with other stakeholders, has embarked on production of compost manure using food waste. Using organic waste for manure production helps encourage greening and lessens land pollution.
- Noise, illegal liquor trade, bush mechanics
Citizens are urged to continue reporting noise pollution through the Municipality’s 24/7 Call Centre (800 2004/2505 7000). Even during night time there is a response team that is always on standby to react to phone calls relating to noise, open burning and stray animals. The influx of illegal motor mechanics, also referred to as bush mechanics, continues to be a thorny issue for the Municipality. A joint team, comprising various stakeholders including the Royal Eswatini Police Service, has established and it will be on the lookout for such illegal activity. Anyone caught will be dealt with in accordance with the law. Citizens and visitors are reminded that urinating in public remains a crime in the city. Anyone caught will be dealt with in accordance with the law. The team will also monitor against littering and anyone caught will be made to pay the applicable fine as per the law. The Municipality’s desire is for cleanliness, safety and order to prevail during the festive season and beyond.
- Please avoid illegal parking
Experience shows that illegal parking in the city is rife during the festive season. Illegal parking refers to parking of a vehicle in areas that are undesignated for parking; including pavements (walkways) yellow lines, zebra crossings and loading zones. Eswatini Parking, a private company that is contracted by the Municipality to manage paid parking in the city centre, has the right to clamp vehicles that are found parked in such areas. For one to have the vehicle unclamped they are required to pay an admission-of-guilt fine with the Royal Eswatini Police Service plus a release fee (E80) that goes to Eswatini Parking.
