Municipality, Philani Maswati Partnership Already Bearing Fruits
…700 Manzini elderly citizens to receive free medical care on 13th July
A partnership that was formalized about two months ago between the Municipal Council of Manzini and Philani Maswati Charity Organisation is already bearing fruit. In a Memorandum of Understanding that was signed by the two organisations in May 2024, it was, amongst others agreed that, both organisations would jointly plan, coordinate and host a medical outreach for Manzini elderly citizens before the annual Biggest Braai event. The parties further agreed to jointly mobilise resources towards the success of the medical outreach. Indeed, preparations for a massive Manzini city medical outreach (also referred to as a Manzini Elderly Health Day) are already underway. At least 700 elderly citizens from the Manzini urban area and peripheral communities, both male and female, will on Saturday 13th July 2024 converge at the Millennium Park within the City of Manzini wherein they will be treated to a wide range of free medical services. The services will include consultations with a dietitian, physiotherapy sessions, eye check-ups, screenings for breast and prostate cancer, pap smears and tuberculosis (TB) testing. Additionally, vital signs such as blood pressure and diabetes levels will be monitored.
A number of organisations have partnered towards the success of the event, which will commence at 7am on the day. These include the Clinic Group, George Town University and many others. The Ministry of Health will also contribute towards the success of the event. The Municipality, together with Philani Maswati Charity Organisation, are grateful to all the sponsors for choosing to partner towards the event. The municipality and Philani Maswati Charity Organisation extend their gratitude to all sponsors and partners. Arrangements are being made to provide free transportation for the elderly citizens, however, those who can are encouraged to use their own transport.
Another key highlight of the Memorandum of Understanding is that the Municipality and Philani Maswati Charity Organisation agreed to collaborate towards promotion of city youth talents during the Embiveni Biggest Braai, which is scheduled for the 20th July 2024 at the Mavuso Trade Centre. Manzini youths that are interested in showcasing their talents during the Embiveni Biggest Braai and the medical outreach are encouraged to express their interest by sending an email to info@manzinicity.co.sz or the Municipality’s official WhatsApp line (7908 2333/7808 2333) on or before Wednesday 10th July 2024. Also forming part of the Memorandum of Understanding is that both organisations agreed to ensure that at least 20 percent of traders who will occupy vending spaces at the Embiveni Biggest Braai will be citizens of the City of Manzini, including persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups. However, that is not to say that they will be provided the vending opportunities free of charge. They will be subjected to payment of the standard rate for acquiring vending spaces. The Municipality remains grateful to the patron of Philani Maswati Charity Organisation, Her Majesty the Indlovukazi, for maintaining the City of Manzini as the host city for the annual biggest braai event. The Municipality is further grateful to Her Majesty for hosting a massive medical outreach for city elderly citizens.

The MY-CAS event was a celebration of creativity, talent and passion amongst young individuals in the fields of arts, crafts and sports. The gathering provided a platform for the youth to showcase their skills, express their creativity and engage in friendly competition; all whilst fostering a strong sense of community. The event drew participation from numerous esteemed stakeholders, including the Manzini Regional Football Association, Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture, Eswatini National Youth Council, Eswatini Boxing Association, Eswatini Table Tennis Association, Eswatini Rugby Union and Eswatini Skating Academy. Several schools also took part in this dynamic event, such as Salesian High School and Primary, St. Theresa’s High School, Ngwane Park High School, Manzini Central High School and Harold’s Academy. Learners engaged in a variety of sporting activities, including street soccer, basketball, volleyball, netball, table tennis and checkers. The performing arts segment featured dance, choral and a cappella music, drama and poetry.
Additionally, the event included an art lesson session facilitated by Obed the Artist under the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture. This session taught learners how to create their own canvas from scratch and mix basic colour paints to produce different hues. The artworks created during the lesson will be displayed in an art gallery and made available for public purchase. The MY-CAS event not only highlighted the remarkable talents of the youth in Manzini but also underscored the city’s commitment to nurturing and celebrating young creatives and athletes.
