Manzini Traffic Interchange: Traffic Diverted into Coates Valley
…special detour arranged for heavy duty vehicles as they are strictly not allowed in the township
Manzini citizens are notified that the ongoing construction of the multi-million Manzini Traffic Interchange, a national Government project that is being carried out by Stefanutti Stocks Construction, has reached a stage where there will be diversion of traffic into Coates Valley. With effect from today, the road stretch between the MR3 entry point into Coates Valley (near the Manzini Regional Administrator’s residence) and the Manzini traffic circle will be temporarily closed until May 2022 in order to facilitate for construction works to progress smoothly with minimal interruptions. A temporary detour has been arranged for traffic coming into the city. With effect from today, light duty traffic coming from the Moneni direction will, when it reaches the four-way stop at Extension 6 (next to Carson Motors), turn left onto King Fisher Road in Moneni, then turn right onto Eagle Road, proceed onto Acacia road and Jacaranda Avenue, take the right turn into Tikhuba street and connect back onto the traffic circle. One of The affected roads in Coates Valley (Acacia Avenue) is in the process of being rehabilitated in order to make it capable to carry the heavy traffic during the detour period.
Heavy duty vehicles (and any other vehicle, including light duty vehicles whose motorists may so desire) have been accommodated in one of the new roads that have been constructed as part of the traffic interchange project. In essence, all heavy duty vehicles that will be affected by this temporary diversion will strictly not be allowed onto any of the township roads (neither Coates Valley nor Extension 6). Traffic signage has been placed in strategic points, informing motorists about the construction activity as well as directions relating to the temporary detour. Road users, including both motorists and pedestrians, are urged to adhere to all the traffic control measures that have been put in place. The contractor has made an undertaking to mitigate any inconvenience that may be caused. Public transport operators and other motorists are implored to avoid over-speeding when using the detour as there may be children and other pedestrians using the road; it being a residential area. Vehicle hooting, loud music and other forms of unnecessary noise are prohibited within the temporary detour in order to ensure that Coates Valley residents continue to enjoy quality of life – both during the day and during night time.
The Municipal Council of Manzini appeals with residents of Coates Valley to welcome the temporary traffic flow changes and exercise patience as the City of Manzini and the country at large stands to benefit immensely once the project is completed. Residents are also urged to ensure that children desist from playing on the roads; through the use of quadbikes or any other play equipment. The Municipality’s wish is for the ongoing traffic interchange construction works to continue incident-free. On another note, residents of Moneni are informed of the ongoing construction of an overhead footbridge in Moneni near Carson Centre. They are urged to keep children away from the construction site in order to avoid accidents.
…CITY GREENING EXERCISE CONTINUES, MORE COUNCILLORS PARTICIPATE
The tree planting exercise wherein the Municipal Council of Manzini aims to plant 500 trees in strategic parts of the city during the current financial year is ongoing. More Ward Councillors participated in the exercise in the past week. These are Ward 9 Councillor Henry Kunene and Ward 11 Councillor Khethokuhle Dlamini. Councillor Kunene planted trees within the Moneni Social Centre, Seventh Day Adventist Primary School, Moneni Free Evangelical Assemblies and along some of the streets in Moneni. Meanwhile, Councillor Dlamini planted within Salesian High and Primary schools as well as within the premises of St Theresa’s High School. The school’s Environmental Club also participated.
