As you might be aware, the municipality is mandated to provide varying basic municipal services, which include but not limited to refuse collection, infrastructural development, street cleansing etc. However, the municipality further offers other additional services to the public at an affordable fee. Some of the services are as listed below;
- PLANTS AND FLOWERS
The Municipality is growing and selling various decorative special plants and flowers for beautification of residential or commercial areas. The plants and flowers sold by the municipality include but not limited to– both exotic and indigenous plants and flowers such as the duranta species (e.g., chinus gold), medicinal plants (e.g. bitter leaf) and a variety of shrubs. The price range is lower than the market price and depends on the type of plant or flower. The nursery is available only from Monday to Fridays within office hours. It is located within the Council depot (located along Tenbergen street just below the Zakhele traffic lights and above the Manzini Trade Hub).
- ADVERTISING SPACES
The municipality also provide outdoor advertising spaces within the city streets and busy areas of the city. These outdoor advertising spaces caters for entertainment events, promotion of products & services, exhibitions etc. Event organisers and the business sector who wish to publicise their events, services or products through outdoor banners and posters have the opportunity to do so. All one needs to do is submit the banner or poster to the Municipality for scrutiny and approval, pay the required fees at the Council Rates Hall, have the posters or banners stamped with a Council stamp as proof of approval and pin them in strategic areas as agreed. The payable fees are E350.00 for ten posters per week and E220 for a single banner per week. Outdoor advertisers are reminded that they are required to remove the posters or banners after the agreed advertising period. It is also important to mention that it is an offence to pin a poster or banner without approval from the Municipality and Council has the right to remove posters or banners that have not been approved. A violation fine of E1000 is issued if the above mentioned occurs.
- OUTDOOR AMPHITHEATRE SPACE
The City of Manzini has an outdoor amphitheatre that is at the disposal of the entertainment industry and the general members of the public. The facility is located at the Pendray recreational park which is located within Trelawney Park Township. Citizens of Manzini are encouraged to make use of the amphitheatre to promote and sharpen their artistic talents.
- RECREATIONAL PARK SPACES
Millennium Park, Somhlolo Park, Trelawney Park are open to members of the public for hosting of events such as weddings, flea markets, birthday parties, corporate events, meetings, and other outdoor events. The payable user fees are dependent on the kind of event and time of day at which they are being booked. The fees range from E630 to E1,200 for day time and overnight activities, respectively. The parks are equipped with toilets and lighting. It is also well fenced, guaranteeing privacy. Contact the available customer service numbers and assistance will be duly offered. Required fees are payable at the Council Rates Hall subsequent to prebooking to avoid conflicts on dates and time.
- HIV/AIDS AND OTHER HEALTH SERVICES
The Municipality in partnership with AIDS HealthCare Foundation has a clinic that offers HIV and AIDS related services named LaMvelase Help Centre. Services provided include Voluntary Counselling and Testing, Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) as well as Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) etc. Furthermore, the Manzini Autism Centre is open to service children from ages 9 months to 12 years old. Services available at the centre are namely; Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Physiotherapy Services. Cost for Services are as follows; Assessment – E200 and Follow up- visit – E100. The Manzini Autism Centre is located along althea road, Fairview South-Manzini. Next to the entrance to Ministry of Agriculture Veterinary Offices. The Manzini Filter Clinic, a general purpose clinic that provides services such as ante-natal care, family planning, curative services etc. User fees range from E20 to E40, depending on the service sought. The clinic is located within the Municipality’s Civic Office Premises. The facilities are open from Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm.
- ZAKHELE COMMUNITY CENTRE
The Municipality has a general purpose recreational facility named Zakhele Community Centre. The community centre is equipped with a 300-seater community hall which is ideal for weddings, parties, church services and meetings. Within the centre there is also football pitches, tennis/volleyball courts. The hall charges E1,500 for weddings and E500 for a meeting. The courts fetch a user fee of E125 whilst the football pitches charge E125 per match. For bookings, one needs to approach the property leasing officer, confirm availability on your preferred date, pay the required fees at the Council Rates Hall, submit proof of payment to the security officers available on site and thereafter enjoy the facility.
- VACCUUM (HONEY SUCKER) TANKER SERVICES
The Municipality has a vacuum tanker that is available for booking by both residents and none residents of the city. The service is available from Monday to Fridays. The payable fee for urban properties is E850 per load whilst non-urban citizens are required to pay E1,510 plus E20 per kilometre. The requirement is that the customer must first pay the applicable disposal fees with the Eswatini Water Services Corporation before paying the Council fees at the Rates Hall. The service is offered on a first-come-first-served basis.
- WASTE SKIP SERVICE
Council offers a skip service for disposal of bulk waste such as construction waste (but not building rubble), tree branches and other forms of garden waste. These kinds of waste are not collected by the refuse truck. The payable fee is E100 per load. All one needs to do is pay the service fee at the Council Rates Hall and register for the service with the Municipality’s Community Services Department. Council will bring the skip to your residence, allow you time to load the waste and thereafter collect it for disposal at the Municipal Controlled Dumpsite.
- BURIAL SERVICES
Council has a burial facility for use by city residents. The Ngwane Park cemetery is available at a fee of E1000 for adults and E500 for children. All one needs to do is submit a copy of the death certificate or confirmation of death from a doctor, pay the requisite fees at the Council Rates Hall and submit proof of payment to the Municipality’s Technical Services department. The department will allocate a grave number and assist you in the event you need more information about the service.
- BOTANICAL GARDEN PHOTO SHOOT AREA
Capture your memorable moments, weddings, graduations, birthday shoots etc, at the Manzini’s lush garden Traffic Circle. The service is available at a fee of E150 and is payable at the Council Rates Hall and keep the proof of payment. Utilizing the photoshoot area without permission is not allowed and it is a serious offence.
- ACCREDITED LABORATORY SERVICES
The facility carries out environmental tests within the city Centre. The tests include analysis of potable drinking water from Eswatini Water Services Corporation, bottled water and ground water (borehole) for the detection of Escherichia Coli (E. coli) and Total coliforms. The laboratory also conducts chemistry analysis (physical parameters) for surface water samples for the detection of pollution levels. Also carried out at the laboratory are hygiene tests through analysis of food swabs, samples, surfaces that are used by food handlers as well as food testing (spoilage and poisoning). The laboratory’s services are open to members of the public at a fee.
WORLD WETLANDS DAY; 2023 WETLANDS RESTORATION
Municipality joins the world in commemorating World Wetlands Day. Wetlands are essential to human wellbeing, inclusive economic growth and climate mitigation and adaptation. They provide water for human consumption and agriculture. They help make cities and settlements safe and resilient. They are the Earth’s greatest natural carbon stores. One of the strategic objectives of the 2019-2024 Integrated development Plan is to reverse the pollution of water bodies within the urban space by 2024. This is in line with goal number (6) of the United Nations Sustainable Development goals which is,” ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.” As an environmental sensitive city, citizens are encouraged to be responsible to ensure protection of all water ecosystems in the city of Manzini by adhering to all waste and litter regulations in place.
